SCION Instruments has headquarters in Livingston, Scotland and Goes, Netherlands. Scion Instruments also markets Compass CDS™ standalone and client-server chromatography data systems. Summary
Due to company expansion, we are seeking a self-motivated and ambitious Scientist to join our expanding R&D department. You will have a positive ‘can do’ attitude and a passion for creativity and innovation. You will be looking to build a long-term career within the field of analytical scientific instrumentation; with an initial focus on developing next generation Gas Chromatography products. You will work as a part of a dynamic highly skilled multi-disciplinary R&D team based in Livingston, near to Edinburgh. You will also work with colleagues globally, which may involve occasional travel.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the execution of development projects through all stages of the product development cycle.
- Build and maintain a deep understanding of the operation and principles of the company’s instrumentation.
- Propose innovative solutions to push new boundaries of performance and reliability.
- Lead the hands on construction and testing of prototype instrumentation.
- Plan and conduct detailed experiments to ensure designs meet target specifications.
- Produce accurate and comprehensive records during development work and confidently communicate findings to business stakeholders.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to multi-discipline teams.
- Support the smooth transfer of new products from R&D into production facilities
Experience & Education
Required Education/Experience:
- A degree or higher in a scientific or engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of industry experience.
- A flair for innovation and creativity.
- Strong scientific and technical background, with a knowledge of the underlying principles of chromatography instrumentation.
- Hands on practical experience with operating and/or testing scientific instrumentation; preferably chromatography instruments.
- Involvement within a project-based environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including writing of technical documentation.
Preferred Education/Experience:
- Experience of working within multi-discipline engineering teams.
- Experience of developing scientific instrumentation.
- Project management experience and/or a project management qualification.
- Understanding of the regulatory and compliance requirements for instrumentation.
- Understanding of the patent process; experience of patent filing and/or FTO analysis beneficial.
- Knowledge of engineering disciplines; mechanical drawings, electronics schematics and/or programming.

- Reporting any health and safety hazards or accidents to the QHSE Manager.
