Sales Manager UK
The Business
SCION Instruments was established following the acquisition of the former Varian GC and GC-MS product lines from Bruker Corporation in 2014. Headquartered in Goes, the Netherlands, with in-house manufacturing and engineering, SCION has a strong heritage in gas chromatography and mass spectrometry, particularly in custom analyser solutions for demanding applications.
The company serves customers across the petroleum, petrochemical, energy, specialty gas, pharmaceutical, food, and environmental markets, delivering robust, application-driven solutions that enable customers to improve process control, compliance, and product quality. SCION combines proven technology with deep application expertise and a highly responsive custom solutions and service capability.
Summary
To accelerate growth and re-establish a strong direct presence in the UK, SCION Instruments is seeking an experienced Sales Manager.
This is a senior, field-based commercial role with full responsibility for revenue growth, brand representation, and customer engagement across the UK and Ireland. The role combines direct sales execution with market development, distributor and partner engagement where applicable, and close collaboration with global product, applications, and service teams.
You will be the face of SCION Instruments in the region, responsible for building momentum, reinforcing our premium positioning, and translating complex customer requirements into differentiated commercial opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and deliver the UK revenue target across instruments, software, consumables, and service, with clear accountability for forecast accuracy and pipeline management.
- Lead direct sales activity for SCION’s chromatography portfolio.
- Re-launch and strengthen SCION’s presence in the region, rebuilding customer relationships, reengaging dormant accounts, and establishing a credible, visible market position.
- Develop and execute a structured territory plan covering key verticals, strategic accounts, and project-based opportunities.
- Qualify, progress, and close complex opportunities, including custom analyser and application-led projects, in collaboration with customs solutions teams.
- Act as the primary commercial interface for customers, ensuring professional account management, high-quality communication, and long-term relationship development.
- Work closely with marketing to support targeted campaigns, events, and lead-generation activity aligned to regional priorities.
- Provide disciplined CRM usage, pipeline reporting, and probability-weighted forecasting in line with company standards.
- Feed structured market intelligence back into the organisation, including competitor activity, pricing dynamics, customer feedback, and emerging application trends.
Required Experience & Education
- Proven track record in direct sales of analytical instrumentation or complex technical solutions within the UK.
- Strong understanding of chromatography and related analytical technologies, or demonstrable ability to sell complex, application-driven capital equipment.
- Experience operating autonomously in a regional sales role, with full ownership of targets, forecasting, and customer strategy.
- Credibility with senior technical and commercial stakeholders, including laboratory managers, engineers, procurement, and executive decision-makers.
- Structured, disciplined approach to pipeline management and forecasting, with a clear focus on conversion and execution.
- Commercially astute, resilient, and comfortable rebuilding momentum in a market that requires re-engagement and trust-building.
What This Role Is Not
This is not a distributor management or order-taking role. It requires a hands-on, senior sales professional who can re-establish presence, create demand, and close complex opportunities while representing a premium European manufacturer.
